LONGVIEW, Texas – The Spring Hill College women's soccer team earned its first victory of the 2012 season with 5-0 non-conference shutout road win over Wiley College on Saturday afternoon.
Spring Hill opened the scoring in the 2nd minute of play with a goal by freshman Amanda Allen of New Orleans, La., off an assist by fellow freshman Courtney Harlan of McGill-Toolen Catholic High School in Mobile.
Allen would later add assists to the consecutive 1st half goals scored by sophomore Megan Fox of Niceville, Fla., and Harlan. Sophomore Erin Claxton of Calgary, Alberta, Canada, scored a fourth goal before the half with an assisting pass by junior Lindsay Aleman from Covington, La., to post SHC to 4-0 lead at intermission.
Fox added the final unassisted goal midway into the second half. Sophomore Abby Massengale (1-0) picked up her third career shutout while collecting just one save and facing just one Wiley shot as a tough Badger defense dominated the contest.
SHC outshot Wiley 32-1.
Spring Hill (1-1) will remain in Longview for a Sunday rematch with the Wildcats (0-1) beginning at noon.
