The Spring Hill College women's soccer team came up short against Savannah College of Art & Design (SCAD-Savannah) by a 6-1 score in a non-conference match on Saturday afternoon at Library Field.
The Bees (3-3) opened the scoring in the 22nd minute with a goal by Shelby Dieckamp with an assist by Katelyn LeRoux and then scored in the 26th minute as Sydney Benda scored from in front of the goal and just outside the goalkeeper's box.
A third goal by SCAD off the foot of Meadhbh Deeney in the 28th minute and a fourth goal by Alexandra Weinberg in the 34th minute gave the Bees a 4-0 advantage before the half.
Freshman Courtney Harlan of Mobile scored in the 44th minute off an assist by sophomore Megan Fox of Niceville, Fla., who lifted a nice right-to-left crossing pass into Harlan in front of the goal.
Nikki Capizzo and Nikki Wittak both benefited from assists by Weinberg in the 54th and 55th minutes as the Bees took the 6-1 victory.
SCAD outshot the Badgers 32-6 and the Bees took nine corner kicks while SHC had none.
Sophomore Abby Massengale (2-1) of New Orleans, La., took the loss as the Badgers' starter with four saves versus 12 shots while freshman Maggie Dalessio of St. Petersburg, Fla., made 10 saves against 14 shots in the second half.
For SCAD, Sarah Hall was the winner with three saves against five shots in just one half of play.
Spring Hill (3-3) next travels to Cleveland, Tenn., to open the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) season versus the No.1-ranked Lee University Lady Flames (1-0) on Friday, September 21 at 4:30 p.m.
