The Spring Hill College volleyball team has designated its match on Thursday, Oct. 18, 2012, at 6 p.m. versus Southern University-New Orleans (SUNO) as "Play4Kay Night on The Hill."

The late Kay Yow, former head women's basketball coach at North Carolina State University, was a past president and founding member of the Women's Basketball Coaches Association (WBCA), and a galvanizing voice for the WBCA. Yow was first diagnosed with breast cancer in 1987, and passed away on January 24, 2009, after facing her third bout with the disease.

SHC head coach Dr. Peggy Martin said, "Not only was Kay Yow a personal friend to me as well as a great coach and a pioneer of women's basketball, but she also once coached volleyball. During my first collegiate coaching experience as an assistant at UNC-Greensboro, we competed against Elon College where Kay coached both volleyball and basketball. She was a true role model for all women in athletics and I will always consider her one of my mentors. It is only fitting that as a female sport we attempt to fight breast cancer and honor Coach Yow."

The Badgers will take donations at the gate and all gate proceeds and concession profits will be donated to the Kay Yow Cancer Fund. Spring Hill College invites all Badger fans to where pink in honor of Yow along with all cancer victims and all cancer survivors.
