The Spring Hill College volleyball team defeated Belhaven University in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) match on Friday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center by a 3-1 final in the scores of 25-16, 21-25, 25-16 and 25-14.
SHC used a 3-0 start to the 1st set behind the serving of junior setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., to set an early tone and cruised to a 25-16 win, but the Lady Blazers (10-3, 2-1 SSAC) responded with a dominated 2nd set holding as much as a 20-10 advantage before a brief SHC rally made it 24-21. The rally proved too little, too late, however, as Belhaven held on for the 25-21 victory.
The final two sets saw the Badgers regain their focus to take 25-16 and 25-14 wins.
SHC was paced by junior Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile who blasted out 20 kills and sophomore Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., who slapped down 17 more scores. Nash ended up with 47 assists and junior Meredith Donald from Mobile scooped up 19 digs. Haber added four solo blocks on defense.
Taylor Williams had 13 kills for Belhaven and Erin Bradley handed out 32 assists.
The Badgers (13-3, 4-0 SSAC) will host Dillard University (0-1) in a non-conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Tuesday at 6 p.m.
