The Spring Hill College volleyball team blew past the Emmanuel College Lady Lions in a conference match on Friday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center by a 3-0 final with the scores of 25-15, 25-19 and 25-11.
A 10-point run by Spring Hill behind the serving of sophomore Maddie LaForge of New Orleans, La., in the 1st set turned a close 13-11 game into a 23-11 Badger rout. In the 2nd set, neither team could grab the early momentum, but once again SHC found the handle on the match when a 6-point run turned a 13-15 deficit into a 19-15 Spring Hill advantage.
Spring Hill scored 11 of the match's final 12 points to secure the 3rd and final set for the 3-0 win.
Sophomore Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., scored 12 kills and held a final .455 hitting percentage for the Badgers while junior setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed out 25 assists. Juniors Sha Sha Buchanan and Meredith Donald both from Mobile McGill-Toolen Catholic School enjoyed nice defensive efforts with Buchanan collecting two solo blocks and three block assists as Donald corralled 12 digs and 13 receptions.
Riley Forester led the Lions (13-6, 2-2 SSAC) with seven kills.
As a team, the Badgers closed the night hitting .280 (43-13-107) and held Emmanuel to .011 (20-19-92)
The Badgers (15-3, 5-0 SSAC) will host Southern Wesleyan University (10-7, 3-2 SSAC) in a conference match at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center on Saturday at 11 a.m.
