The Spring Hill College women's soccer team lost a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) contest to Truett-McConnell College by a 2-1 score on Friday afternoon at Library Field.
The Bears (5-4, 1-2 SSAC) opened the scoring in the 25th minute when an errant pass by the Badger defense was intercepted by the Bears' Sarah Murphy who finished the breakaway with a goal past freshman SHC goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio of St. Petersburg, Fla.
Spring Hill answered in the 75th minute with a tying goal by freshman Kari Vitucci of Cedarburg, Wis., off an assist by sophomore Tatiana Gonzalez of Ocean Spring, Miss., but just 36 seconds later a miscommunication between Dalessio and her defense allowed Joely Cook of TMC to slide a 10-yard shot from the left end-line parallel to the face of the goal that rolled over the line for the game-winning goal.
In taking the loss, Dalessio made five saves against 10 TMC shots in injury relief of starter sophomore Abby Massengale of New Orleans, La., who left the game after making a sliding save in the 15th minute.
Emily Bechke of the Bears picked up the win in goal with nine saves against 13 SHC shots.
Spring Hill (3-6, 0-3 SSAC) will next host conference opponent Southern Wesleyan University (4-3-1, 0-2-1 SSAC) on Saturday at 2 p.m. at Library Field.
