The Spring Hill College women's basketball team opened the 2012-13 season with a 73-55 non-conference win over Fisk University on Friday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Badgers led 36-35 in a closely contested 1st half, but used an early 13-2 run in the 2nd half to build out a 51-39 advantage and never looked back, holding as much as a late 20-point bulge at 72-52.
A balanced Spring Hill College scoring attack was paced by senior center April Bradford of Pensacola, Fla., who scored 11 points and pulled down seven rebounds. Senior Kristin Rogers of Ft. Walton Beach, Fla., scored 11 points and junior Twarner Witherspoon of Thomasville, Ala., collected seven rebounds.
The visiting Bulldogs (1-1) saw Janine Davis pour in 16 points and Nacori Foreman added 10 rebounds.
As a team, the Badgers shot 50.8% (31-61) from the field and 38.5% (5-13 from 3-point range. SHC also out-rebounded the Bulldogs 43-33.
Fisk was held to 33.9% (20-59) overall in shooting and just 20% (3-15) in 3-pointers.
Spring Hill (1-0) will next travel to Lebanon, Tenn., on Saturday for a 7 p.m. contest with Cumberland University (1-0).
