MONTGOMERY, Ala. – The Spring Hill College men's soccer team closed out the 2012 season with a 5-0 loss to the 8th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks in the opening round of the 2012 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship Tournament on Saturday afternoon at the AUM Soccer Complex.

The Warhawks held a 1-0 lead at halftime following a Cesar Kestring goal in the 9th minute, but would not score again until the 58th minute when Agust Arnarson tallied an unassisted goal. Arnarson would later team up with Christian Holthaus for his second goal in the 74th minute.

AUM poured on two more goals in the 84th and 87th minutes when Sebastian Wladyko scored a penalty kick and Dagur Jonsson scored an empty net goal off an assist from Angel Gonzalez.

Freshman Badger goalkeeper Jacob Files of Clinton, Miss., made six saves against 32 shots by the Warhawks to fall to 7-8-1 in his first collegiate season while Vignir Johannesson collected three saves against eight Spring Hill shots for the shutout win.

AUM (14-3-2) avenged an earlier 3-3 regular season draw with the Badgers that cost the Warhawks a share of the 2012 SSAC Regular Season Championship.

Spring Hill finished the year with a 10-8-1 overall record and a 5-5-1 mark in SSAC play, tallying the first consecutive winning seasons in the 21-year history of the program. SHC finished 2011 with a 10-9 record.
