The Spring Hill College men's basketball team dropped its second consecutive decision to start the 2012-13 season with an 83-46 non-conference loss to the 24th-ranked Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Knights on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
SUNO (1-0) never trailed in the contest and built as much as a 39-point lead in the second half after taking a 43-26 advantage into the halftime intermission.
Junior guard Todd Martin from Mobile and freshman forward Quinton Campbell of Wilmer, Ala., each scored eight points for Spring Hill while no Badger had more than three rebounds as the Knights out-rebounded the host team 43-26.
Clyde Moore of SUNO led all scorers and rebounders with 17 points and nine boards as five Knights broke into double-digit scoring.
As a team, SHC shot 26.4% (14-53) from the field and 29.2% (7-24) from 3-point land while the Knights drained 55.2% (32-58) of their shots including 28.6% (4-14) from long distance.
Spring Hill College (0-2) will next travel down Old Shell Road on Monday night at 7:05 p.m. for an exhibition match with the University of South Alabama in the USA Mitchell Center.
