Spring Hill College opened SSAC women's basketball action with an 82-62 win over Brenau at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center Friday night. The win marks the first time in 4 years that the Badgers have opened conference play with a win.
The first half was a back and forth affair. Spring Hill built an 8 point lead midway through the half before Brenau answered with a run to close the gap and take the lead into the locker room at 37-36.
The Badgers came out on fire to start the second period and used a 24 to 8 run over the first 10 minutes to build a 15 point cushion. Brenau made a couple of short runs to whittle down the margin, but could get no closer than 9 the rest of the way. The Badger inside game seemingly had an answer for every Brenau run down the stretch.
Bria Bohanon led 5 Badger players in double figures with 14. Armanee Broussard added 13, April Bradford and Jamesha Watkins each tossed in 12 and Kristen Rogers chipped in 10 for the home team. On the glass, Spring Hill was led by Rodgers with 8 boards while Arielle Harris also snatched 7 rebounds.
Brenau was led offensively by Raven Crawford with 13 points while Gabby Harvey (11) and Nikkie Reed (10) also reached double digits in scoring.
The Badgers will be back in action tomorrow afternoon when they will host SSAC foe Emmanuel College. Tip-off is scheduled for 3:00 PM.
