CLEVELAND, Tenn. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team suffered an 81-49 reversal in a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) road game at 9th-ranked Lee University on Saturday afternoon in Walker Arena.
The Lady Flames (6-1, 2-1 SSAC East) scored 10 of their first 13 points in the paint and built a quick 17-7 lead over the visitors from Mobile, Ala., with 12 minutes to go in the period. Lee would then outscore the Badgers 10-1 over the final 2½ minutes of the half and carried a 43-23 advantage into the break.
With 9 minutes remaining on the clock the Flames held a 30-point lead at 67-37 and had scored all but two of their points in the paint (46) or from the free throw line (19).
For Spring Hill, junior guard Jamesha Watkins of York, Ala., scored 16 points as the Badgers shot 26.5% (13-49) from the field and 5.3% (1-19) from 3-point land. SHC turned the ball over 20 times against 12 steals by the Lady Flames.
Myriah Iles came off the bench for Lee and scored a game-high 17 points while the Lady Flames shot 47.6% (30-63) overall and 9.1% (1-11) in 3-point attempts. Lee turned the ball over 20 times against five SHC steals and out-rebounded Spring Hill 49-34.
The Badgers (3-6, 2-2 SSAC West) will make a short trip down Old Shell Road on Tuesday to face the Lady Jags of the University of South Alabama (5-2) in an exhibition contest beginning at 5:05 p.m. in the USA Mitchell Center.
