BATON ROUGE, La. – The Spring Hill College men's basketball team lost a 67-46 exhibition decision to NCAA Division 1 opponent Southern University on Friday night at the F.G. Clark Activity Center.
The Jaguars (6-6) sprinted out to a 33-14 lead at halftime, but the Badgers responded with a 16-5 run to open the 2nd half that cut the deficit down to 40-30 just five minutes into the period.
Three consecutive 3-point buckets by Southern, however, would rebuild a 20-point bulge for the Jaguars at 57-37 with 7:19 to play.
SHC was paced by junior forward Alex Looney with 15 points and junior guard Robert Gipson with 11 points. The Badgers shot 39.5% (15-38) from the floor and 19% (4-21) in 3-point attempts. Spring Hill suffered 20 turnovers against 13 Jag steals and were out-rebounded 33-31.
Malcolm Miller scored 17 points for the home team as Southern shot 38.3% (23-60) and 34.8% (8-23) from 3-point distance. The Jaguars allowed just six turnovers against two Badger steals.
Spring Hill (2-13) will next visit the University Center in Hammond, La., on Saturday for an exhibition contest with NCAA Division 1 foe Southeastern Louisiana University (1-8) at 4 p.m.
