The Spring Hill College women's basketball team lost to Loyola University (La.) 78-57 in a conference game on Saturday afternoon at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Loyola (10-13, 7-8 SSAC West) jumped out to a 9-2 lead in the first four minutes of the game as Jasmine Brewer and Rebekah Greer combined to score all nine of the early Wolf Pack points. The Badgers responded with an 8-2 run led by four quick points from junior forward Sha Sha Buchanan.
Loyola then went on a 13-6 run and slowly added to their lead that reached 43-34 at halftime. In the 2nd half, Spring Hill was unable to get the game any closer than the 9-point difference they held at halftime as the Wolf Pack controlled the period on their way to the win.
Brewer finished with 18 points while pulling down nine rebounds for Loyola. Megen Berner also secured nine rebounds while scoring 12 points. Greer hit four 3-pointers as part of a 16-point game.
Spring Hill was led by 14 points from Buchanan while freshman center Leah Washington added 10 points and grabbed a team-high eight rebounds. Sophomore point guard Elissa VandeWaa had eight assists for the Badgers.
Loyola effectively shared the ball and handed out 24 assists on 32 made field goals.
The Pack won the rebounding battle 44-38 and shot 49.2% (32-65) while holding the Badgers to 34.3% (24-70) shooting. Spring Hill earned 35 bench points to only 14 for the Wolf Pack.
The Badgers (11-14, 7-8 SSAC West) will travel to the 24th-ranked Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks (18-7, 10-4 SSAC West) on Thursday at the AUM P.E. Complex beginning at 5:30 p.m.
