The Spring Hill College men's basketball team suffered a 58-48 conference loss to Loyola University (La.) on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Badgers scored the first eight points of the game before Loyola responded with their own 21-2 run to take over the game. The Badgers failed to regain the lead again after Aleksandar Matoski tied the game for the Wolf Pack at 8-8 with 14:33 remaining in the first half.
Loyola built out a 31-18 advantage at the halftime break and continued to lead by 10 with four minutes remaining, but six straight Badger points cut the lead to four with one minute left in the game. Cameron Hill of the Wolf Pack stopped the SHC run with a layup and the Wolf Pack converted six straight free throws to seal the game for Loyola.
Hill came off the bench to lead all scorers with 16 points while pulling down eight rebounds. McCall Tomeny recorded a game-high nine boards and also contributed 11 points for the Pack. Robert Lovaglio added 12 in the Loyola cause and Daniel Kuhl had a game-high four assists.
Spring Hill was led by junior guard Robert Gipson with 12 points.
Loyola won the game on the strength of a defensive performance that held the Badgers to 29.5% (18-61) shooting while also holding a decisive 48 to 32 rebounding edge. The Wolf Pack (14-11, 8-7) handed out 16 assists on their 20 made shots.
Spring Hill (4-22, 3-12 SSAC West) will travel to the Auburn University Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks (9-12, 7-7 SSAC West) on Thursday beginning at 7:30 p.m. in the AUM P.E. Complex.
