The Spring Hill College women's basketball team closed out the 2012-2013 season with a 59-54 loss to the University of Mobile Lady Rams on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Lady Rams (15-14, 9-9 SSAC West) held a 30-26 lead at the halftime break and then ratcheted up their defensive pressure early in the 2nd half to build out a 41-35 advantage at the 13-minute mark.
Spring Hill rallied to tie the score at 41-41 just three minutes later, but could not find the firepower to wrest away the lead. With 6:17 on the clock, Mobile had rebuilt a 53-47 cushion, but SHC made another run capped by a layup by junior forward Sha Sha Buchanan to make it a 57-54 game with 3:06 remaining.
Two final 3-point attempts by guards Bria Bohanon and Natalie Harper missed the mark as UM held on for the win.
Bohanon scored 10 points to pace the Badgers on offense while Buchanan pulled down a game-high 11 rebounds. SHC shot 43.8% (21-48) from the field and was 35.7% (5-14) from behind the arc. The Badgers lost 20 turnovers to 10 Mobile steals, but won the rebounding battle by a 38 to 34 margin.
Mobile's Brianna Edwards scored 15 points while Shaunette Battle came off the bench to add 11 points and Deonica McCormick contributed 10 points. The Lady Rams were 35.3% (24-68) from the floor and 35.3% (6-17) in 3-point attempts while losing just seven turnovers to only three Spring Hill steals.
The Badgers closed out the year with a 12-17 record including a 7-11 mark in the SSAC West Division.
