HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The Spring Hill College baseball team closed out their second weekend of Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) play with 10-1 and 12-0 losses in a doubleheader at William Carey University on Saturday afternoon.
Vito Perna (3-0) drew the start for the Crusaders and gave up a run in the 1st inning when Badger catcher Ryan Stevens brought 2nd baseman Brian Sims in from 3rd base with a sacrifice fly to right field.
Badger starter Casey Adams (0-2) gave up two walks and three consecutive hits in the bottom of the frame en route to a 6-run inning by the Crusaders (14-6, 8-1 SSAC). Adams would finish two innings with five hits and six walks before being relieved by Daniel Pitfield to start the 3rd inning. Pitfield would finish the game giving up seven hits a walk and a strikeout.
Perna lasted six innings with three hits, two walks and five strikeouts. Crusader left fielder Tre Keyes and first baseman Cade LeBlanc each went 3-for-4 in the opening contest.
In the second game, Jack Howard (1-2) lasted four innings with 11 hits, four walks and three strikeouts.
For Carey, Cullen Babin (4-1) went five innings allowing just two hits, no walks and six strikeouts.
Sims recorded a hit in both ends of the twin bill for the Badgers. Carey third baseman Mitch Bohon was 3-for-5 with three RBI in the nightcap.
The Badgers (7-9, 2-4 SSAC) will host the Lyon College Scots (11-3) from Batesville, Ark. on Monday and Tuesday in a two-game non-conference set with both contests set for a 5 p.m. starts at historic Stan Galle Field.
