The Spring Hill College softball team continued its hot start to the 2013 season with a sweep of NCAA Division 2 foe Tuskegee University at Murray Field on Tuesday afternoon by the scores of 11-0 and 5-1.
In the day's opener, freshman Caroline Sagrera (6-0) recorded her fifth consecutive shutout by striking out 12 Golden Tiger batters in five innings of work and giving up just two hits with a walk.
Spring Hill struck for three runs in the 2nd inning with sophomore right fielder Shea Blanchard providing a 2-RBI double to left-center with two outs. The Badgers then posted a five-run 3rd frame capped by another 2-run single to left by Blanchard with two outs.
Markeia Billups took the loss for the Golden Tigers (1-3) in four innings with 12 hits, five walks and no strikeouts.
In the nightcap, Badger senior Linsey Dickerson (4-1) earned the complete-game win with three hits, three walks and seven strikeouts.
The Badgers broke open a 1-1 tie in the 3rd inning when first baseman Elise deBruler ripped a run-scoring double to right-center that was followed by a single to left by senior leftfielder Katelyn Hinson that scored deBruler. A wild pitch would later plate centerfielder Taylor Webre to make it 4-1 in favor of Spring Hill.
Catcher Jade Bourgeois had three hits for the Badgers on the day and shortstop Sam Leach enjoyed a 3-for-3 effort it in Game One. DeBruler, Blanchard, Sagrera and Webre each had a pair of hits for Spring Hill in the doubleheader.
Spring Hill will next host Campbellsville University (7-4) at 1 p.m. and Cardinal Stritch University (6-6) in a pair of non-conference games on Wednesday at Murray Field.
