GULF SHORES, Ala. – The Spring Hill College softball team split a pair of games with a 1-0 win over 15th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College and a 4-0 loss versus Cumberland University at the Gulf Coast Invitational Tournament on Saturday morning.
In the day's first game versus Lindsey Wilson (13-1), freshman Caroline Sagrera (10-0) handed the Blue Raiders their first loss of the year collecting nine strikeouts to go along with only three hits allowed and three walks.
Sophomore first baseman Elise deBruler provided the winning run via a bases-loaded two-out single to center that brought in freshman shortstop Sam Leach from 3rd base in the bottom of the 6th inning.
Cara Law (2-1) took the loss for LWC with three hits, two walks and six strikeouts.
In the nightcap against Cumberland (13-5), Badger senior starter Linsey Dickerson (5-2) took the loss in two innings with five hits and a walk. Courtney Maynard was the winner for CU in the complete-game shutout effort with three hits allowed, no walks and eight strikeouts.
Spring Hill (15-3) will begin play in the Gold Bracket of the elimination round on Sunday versus Thomas University (10-8) at 11 a.m..
