HATTIESBURG, Miss. – The 23rd-ranked Spring Hill College softball team split a conference road doubleheader with the 12th-ranked William Carey University Crusaders on Tuesday evening by winning the opener 2-1 in nine innings before falling 7-0 in the nightcap.

SHC fell down 1-0 in the 1st inning of Game One following a 2-out RBI double by Carey right fielder Hannah Cook-Kelley, but responded in the 3rd inning when sophomore right fielder Shea Blanchard blasted a solo homer out of left field with one out.

The score remained knotted a one run each until the top of the 9th inning when sophomore centerfielder Taylor ripped a double to right-center to score sophomore catcher Jade Bourgeois from 2nd base.

Freshman Badger starter Caroline Sagrera (21-3) collected 14 strikeouts in the win and allowed just four hits with one walk.

The Lady Crusaders (27-10, 13-5 SSAC West) rebounded in the second game by building a quick 3-0 lead off Badger starter senior Linsey Dickerson (7-5) before Sagrera returned to start the 3rd inning.

On offense, Webre had a hit in both games while Cook-Kelley enjoyed a 4-for-7 day with four RBI.

Spring Hill (29-9, 9-6 SSAC West) will continue its current eight-game road swing with a visit to Brunswick, Ga., on Friday to face the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners (8-22-1, 4-12-1 SSAC East) in an SSAC cross-divisional doubleheader beginning at 2 p.m.
