PENSACOLA, Fla. – The Spring Hill College baseball team lost an 8-7 non-conference 12-inning marathon to the University of West Florida Argonauts on Tuesday night at Jim Spooner Field.
After the Badgers exploded for four runs in top of the 1st inning, the Argos (26-10), ranked No. 15 in the latest NCAA Division 2 poll, fought back to tie the game at 6-6 with a 3-run outburst in the 6th inning.
UWF would earn the win with a bases-loaded single to deep left-center in the bottom of the 12th inning off senior reliever Daniel Pitfield (1-1).
Four Badger pitchers allowed 10 hits to the Argos with 10 walks and eight strikeouts while five UWF pitchers gave up nine hits with eight walks and 13 strikeouts.
The Badgers (14-25, 6-15 SSAC) will host the Belhaven University Blazers (29-15, 13-8 SSAC) in a three-game conference series beginning with a single game on Friday at 6 p.m. and followed by a Saturday doubleheader at 1 p.m. on historic Stan Galle Field.
