The Spring Hill College baseball team lost a 6-4 conference decision to the visiting Belhaven University Blazers in 11 innings on Friday night at historic Stan Galle Field.
The Blazers scored on two throwing errors by freshman Badger relief pitcher Johnathan Billings (2-5) in the top of the 11th frame to push across the winning runs.
Spring Hill had rallied from a 4-2 deficit to knot the score at 4-4 with a run in the 7th inning off a sacrifice fly to right field by senior first baseman John Hollingsworth and an 8th inning bases-loaded walk by sophomore catcher Ryan Stevens.
SHC starter senior Nick Schmiemeier went six innings in the no-decision with just four hits, seven walks and four strikeouts. Billings totaled five innings with five hits, a walk and two strikeouts.
For Belhaven, Josh Rogers (4-2) picked up the win in relief with 3.2 innings of work, two hits, two walks and six strikeouts including the final out of the game with runners at 1st and 3rd bases for the Badgers.
On offense, Spring Hill stranded 15 runners on base and out hit BU 10-9 with freshman third baseman Willie Floros earning three hits and an RBI. Junior second baseman Brian Sims added two hits and a run driven in for the Badgers.
Belhaven's centerfielder Reagan Rutledge enjoyed a 3-for-4 day and left fielder Dominick Francia had two hits including a two-out 2-RBI single in the 6th inning.
The Badgers (14-26, 6-16 SSAC) and the Blazers (30-15, 14-8 SSAC) will face off again in doubleheader at 1 p.m. on Saturday at Stan Galle Field.
