JACKSON, Miss. – The Spring Hill College baseball team swept a non-conference road doubleheader from the Tougaloo College Bulldogs by the scores of 9-4 and 6-1 on Tuesday afternoon.
Badger starter Daniel Pitfield (2-1) took the opening win over Tougaloo (7-31) in six innings of work with Chris Rodriguez closing out the 7th inning. The Badgers scored at least one run in every inning except the 3rd frame as five SHC hitters tallied at least two hits in the contest.
Left fielder Garrett Webb had a pair of hits with a triple, centerfielder Andy Robbins and catcher Ryan Stevens had two hits with a double each while second baseman Brian Sims and 3rd baseman Willie Floros both collected a pair of safeties.
In the second game, Hunter Nowak (3-1) earned the win in six innings as Brooks Bobinger closed out the 7th inning in his first appearance on the mound this season. The Badgers opened the game hot and scored four runs in the 1st inning before spreading the icing with two more runs in the 6th inning. Sims had three hits in the nightcap and Floros added two more singles to his day's total.
The Badgers (17-27, 7-17 SSAC) will close out their 2013 home season by hosting historic rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack (15-33, 8-19 SSAC) in a three-game Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) series this weekend beginning with a single game at 6 p.m. on Friday and wrapping up in a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m. at historic Stan Galle Field. Between games on Saturday, Spring Hill will honor their eight senior players with the annual Senior Day ceremony.
