The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named Jordan Travis and Katelyn Hinson as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their on-field efforts during the week of April 8-14, 2013.
Travis, a freshman sprinter from Poplarville, Miss., won the 800-meter Run at the 2013 University of South Alabama (USA) Invitational on Saturday in a time of 1:54.98. He was the top finisher in a field of 11 runners that included athletes from NCAA Division 1 programs USA, Tulane and Alabama State. It was also the first individual victory in the history of the fledgling Badger Track & Field program.
Hinson, a senior outfielder from Cottage Hill Christian Academy in Mobile, hit a Grand Slam homerun in the first game of the Badgers' conference doubleheader at the College of Coastal Georgia on Saturday then followed her heroics with a two-out, bases-loaded, full-count single to center that brought in two runs to tie the second game at 2-2 in the top of the 6th inning. SHC would go on to win both contest by the scores of 6-0 and 3-2 respectively.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
