The Spring Hill College baseball team swept both ends of a conference doubleheader over Jesuit rival Loyola University (La.) by the scores of 15-3 and 5-3 on Saturday afternoon at historic Stan Galle Field.

In the opening contest, the Badgers surrendered three runs in the 1st inning highlighted by a 2-run homerun to right by Wolf Pack (15-37, 8-22 SSAC) first baseman Evan Turkish, but rebounded in the bottom of the frame with three runs of their own off six singles.

SHC would add single runs in the 2nd, 3rd and 5th innings to build out a 6-3 lead, but exploded in the 6th inning for nine runs off nine hits, including four doubles by senior first baseman John Hollingsworth, sophomore centerfielder Andy Robbins, sophomore catcher Ryan Stevens and freshman third baseman Willie Floros.

Senior starter Casey Adams (2-4) was the winner in five innings with five hits, two walks and a strikeout. Seven Badgers collected multiple hits in the game led by Floros with a 4-for-5 effort and two RBI and sophomore designated hitter Cyrus Beermann with three hits and three RBI. Senior pitcher Nick Schmiemeier even got into the swing of things with a pinch-hit single up the middle in the 6th inning that drove in two runs.

Four Loyola pitchers gave up 21 hits, four balks, three hit batters, two wild pitches, a walk and no strikeouts as starter Daniel Posway (2-6) took the loss.

In the nightcap, the Badgers benefited from a wild throw to 1st base with two outs by Wolf Pack shortstop Allen Newman that allowed Stevens to score from 3rd base to turn a 3-3 tie into a 4-3 Spring Hill advantage in the 7th inning.

Sophomore Jack Howard (2-2) picked up the win in relief of starter sophomore Keller Douglas while senior Michael Moch collected his first save of the season by closing out the final two innings with one hit, a walk and two strikeouts.

At the plate, junior second baseman Brian Sims, Robbins and senior catcher Joe Sykes each had a pair of hits with Sykes adding two RBI.

Loyola's Joel Buhler (2-6) took the loss in relief with 1.2 innings of work, three hits, two walks and two strikeouts.

For Loyola's offense on the day, second baseman Carmelo LaSauro had three hits with two runs scored and third baseman Nevin Brown also had three hits in the twin bill.

The Badgers (20-27, 10-17 SSAC) will close out the 2013 season in a three-game conference series at arch-rival the University of Mobile (31-17, 14-13 SSAC) this weekend beginning with a single game on Friday at 2 p.m. followed by a doubleheader on Saturday at 1 p.m.
