The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named Nick Schmiemeier and Taylor Lahasky as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their achievements on the diamond during the week of April 15-21, 2013.
Schmiemeier, a senior pitcher from St. Louis, Mo., struck out 14 batters on Friday night in his complete-game one-hitter versus Loyola University (La.) on Friday night as the Badgers won 2-0. For the season, he holds a 2.80 ERA over 64.1 innings pitched with 52 strikeouts. Opponents are hitting just .222 versus the 6-foot-3-inch right-hander.
Lahasky, a freshman from New Iberia, La., walked on to the Badger softball team in February after playing for the SHC volleyball team in the fall. Since joining the softball team, she has since earned the starting designated player role and is currently hitting .255 with 12 hits, a double and six RBI.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
