The Spring Hill College baseball team wrapped up the 2013 season with a 6-3 conference loss at the University of Mobile Rams at Mike Jacobs Field on Saturday afternoon.
Mobile (34-19, 17-13 SSAC) broke open a 1-1 tie in the 4th inning highlighted by a 2-run single by designated hitter Neil Hudson with two outs.
Spring Hill cut it to a 4-3 deficit with two runs in the 7th when two runs came home following a single to centerfield by senior first baseman John Hollingsworth. The tying run would be cut down at the plate when Rams' outfielder Ryan Parazine made a good running catch of a pop fly to shallow right and then threw a bullet to home in time to catch a sliding Brian Sims who was attempting to score on the tag at 3rd base.
The Rams would then add single runs in the bottom of the 7th and 8th innings to salt away the final score.
Hollingsworth paced the Badger effort with two hits and an RBI while designated hitter sophomore Cyrus Beermann ripped a double to right-centerfield in the 8th inning.
Senior Nick Schmiemeier (3-5) took the loss in four innings with five hits, seven walks and a strikeout. Jacob Knowles was the Mobile winner in relief with three innings of work, six hits, no walks and a strikeout. Cole Vaughn had the save, facing just three batters in the 9th inning and recording two fly balls sandwiched around a strikeout.
The Badgers finished the year with a 20-30 overall record and a 10-20 mark in the SSAC.
