COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College softball team bowed to 3rd-ranked Lee University by a score of 5-1 in the quarterfinal round of the Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championship Tournament at R.G. Jones Field on Friday evening.
Freshman All-Conference pitcher Caroline Sagrera (30-7) surrendered a two-run double with one out in the 1st inning, but freshman designated hitter Taylor Lahasky answered by blasting a solo homer to left field to make it 2-1 in the top of the 5th inning.
Lee tacked on three runs in a 6th-inning outburst that salted away the game and sent the Flames into Saturday's championship game and Spring Hill into a semifinal contest.
Lee (43-9) starter Jessa Watts (6-2) pitched four innings with two hits, two walks and two strikeouts while Sagrera went the distance seven hits, a walk and 11 strikeouts.
The 15th-ranked Badgers (40-13) will next play at noon EDT Saturday on R.G. Jones Field versus the winner of the Auburn-Montgomery and Belhaven contest.
