KANSAS CITY, Mo. -- The National Association of Intercollegiate Athletics (NAIA) announced on Friday morning that Spring Hill College men's tennis player Jake Lyons has been named a 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athlete.

Lyons, a senior from Jacksonville, Ala., is a Pre-Health major and appeared in over 50 singles matches and more than 45 doubles matches during his four-year career at SHC. He also won the award last year as a junior.

Since the award was introduced in 1979, a total of 157 SHC student-athletes have received Scholar Athlete recognition from the NAIA.

This year a total of 94 men's tennis players were named 2013 Daktronics-NAIA Scholar Athletes. Nominated by each institution's head coach, a student-athlete must maintain a minimum grade point average of 3.5 on a 4.0 scale and have achieved junior academic status to qualify.
