COLUMBUS, Ga. – The Spring Hill College softball team's amazing postseason run continued at the 2013 NAIA National Championship Tournament's Final Site with a 7-1 decision over the 6th-seeded Williams Baptist University Lady Eagles at R.G. Jones Field on Monday night.
Senior 3rd-baseman Mariha Partman opened the show with a solo homerun to left with one out in the top of the 1st inning that was followed four batters later by a three-run home run by freshman designated played Taylor Lahasky as the Badgers built an early 4-0 lead over the Lady Eagles (45-8).
SHC freshman pitcher Caroline Sagrera (38-9) opened the game strong by striking out the side en route to a 13-strikeout performance.
In the 4th frame, WBU strung together a their only two hits of the game with a single to left field by first baseman Hallie Horton with two outs that was followed by an RBI-double down the left field line by third baseman Kayla Jones.
Sophomore centerfielder Taylor Webre decided the game with a two-run homer off the left field foul pole in the 5th inning off Eagle starter Karisa Hendrix (48-6) and the Badgers would later add an unearned insurance run in the 7th inning via an infield single by first baseman sophomore Elise deBruler.
Sagrera allowed two hits with no walks and 13 strikeouts while Hendrix lasted 4.1 innings with six hits, three walks and two strikeouts.
At the plate, Webre, deBruler and Partman each enjoyed two-hit nights.
Spring Hill (48-15) will next play the top-seeded Concordia University (Calif.) Eagles (50-3) on Tuesday at 7 p.m. EDT at R.G. Jones Field in the semifinal round.
