The Spring Hill College women's soccer team picked up its school record tenth win of the season on Saturday defeating visiting Belhaven College 4-1 on Library Field. Sophomore Kasey Pruett of Flower Mound, Texas, scored twice including the opening goal of the game in the 27th minute. Senior team captain Jennifer Huber of St. Louis, Mo., also added two goals. Her second goal came just 50 seconds into the second half and put the Badgers ahead to stay with a 2-1 score.
Head Coach Adam Pearce said following the match, "This game is a real testament to the character of this ball club. We played very average in the first half and let them tie us right before the break, but they came out and just dominated in the second half." Spring Hill out shot the Lady Blazers 16 to one in the second period and 25 to four for the game.
Senior goalkeeper Shannon Netherby of Marmora, N.J., faced little opposition while collecting her school-record tenth win, but made two saves. Belhaven keeper Kristin Parson made a total of seven saves.
"I'm proud to be a part of this team," said Pearce of the new record, "It's been a great honor just to be a part of what these ladies have done this year. They are a special group. I've been around a lot of soccer and what they did this year isn't easy."
The Spring Hill women (10-6-2, 4-2-2) next play LSU-Shreveport in Hattiesburg, Miss., at 11 a.m. on Friday in the GCAC Tournament.
