The Spring Hill College men's soccer team accepted a 6-1 loss to non-conference foe the Thomas University (Ga.) Night Hawks on Saturday afternoon at Library Field.
Spring Hill trailed 3-0 at the halftime intermission after the Night Hawks (2-1) scored in the 25th and 45th minutes and the Badgers added an own goal in the 33rd minute of play.
The 2nd half saw Thomas score again in the 51st, 71st and 76th minutes before Badger junior forward Tyler Hartlage of Tampa, Fla., was able to break free for a one-on-one opportunity against the Night Hawk goalkeeper for a goal in the 87th minute of play to stop the threat of a shutout.
Thomas outshot the Badgers 29-12 as SHC keeper sophomore Jacob Files of Clinton, Miss., made 13 saves and his Thomas counterpart, Andi Hoffer, collected seven stops.
Thomas took 10 corner kick opportunities while limiting Spring Hill to just two attempts from the angles.
Spring Hill (2-1) will next host NCAA Division II opponent Delta State University in the Statesmen's season opener on Saturday at 5 p.m. at Library Field.
