The Spring Hill College volleyball team swept a non-conference match from Xavier University (La.) by a score of 3-0 (25-12, 25-20, 25-9) on Tuesday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Badgers jumped out to an early 7-1 lead on the Gold Nuggets of Xavier (5-4) in the first set and held as much as a 22-8 advantage before closing out the frame at 25-12. Xavier came to life in the second set and battled the Badgers point-for-point until SHC pulled out to a brief 19-14 bulge. Xavier responded with a four-point run to make it just a 19-18 deficit for the Gold Nuggets, but the Badgers would win the final sprint for a 25-20 victory.
In the third and final set, Spring Hill commanded a 10-1 lead that quickly grew to a 22-8 score and then cruised to the 25-9 final.
Senior setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed around 34 assists to her teammates while freshman hitter Madison Seuzeneau of Tampa, Fla., recorded her season-high of 13 kills to pace the SHC offense while fellow freshman hitter Molly Griffin of Westlake Village, Calif., came in with 11 kills, 12 digs and 18 receptions as junior Megan Haber from Lillian, Ala., tallied 10 kills and an attack percentage of .714.
Senior libero Meredith Donald of Mobile scooped in 17 digs while the Badger defense blocked five XU shot attempts.
Xavier was paced by Chinedu Echbelem with nine kills, Jodi Chatters with 15 digs and Fran Pirkl with 24 assists.
The Badgers (7-2) return home to the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center this Thursday evening in a 6 p.m. start versus non-conference foe Arizona Christian University (0-2).
