The Spring Hill College volleyball team swept a non-conference match from the Arizona Christian University Firestorm by a score of 3-0 (25-15, 25-13, 25-11) on Thursday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
The Badgers ran out to a quick 4-0 lead to open the first set and kept the Firestorm (0-4) at arm's length throughout the frame before finally running out the final five points to take a 1-0 set advantage with a 25-15 win.
In the second set, ACU responded by taking a 4-1 lead, but the Badgers answered back behind the serving of sophomore Mallory Raulerson from Mobile who ran off five consecutive points including an ace to put SHC up 6-5. Spring Hill later ran off another six-point string in the set to build a comfortable 14-7 cushion en route to a 25-13 victory.
The final set saw the Badgers turn a close 11-8 margin into an 18-8 advantage before coasting to the 25-11 final score.
Junior hitter Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., enjoyed a 14-kill performance with four block assists while senior setter Taryn Nash from Independence, Mo., distributed 33 assists with 11 digs. Senior middle hitter Sha Sha Buchanan had two solo blocks and two service aces as freshman hitter Molly Griffin of Westlake Village, Calif., tallied nine kills and 16 digs.
As a team, the Badgers compiled a .420 (40-6-81) attack percentage and limited ACU to just .093 (24-15-91).
Haley Worden paced the Firestorm with 10 kills and nine digs while setter Kailaa Heaney had 14 assists.
The Badgers (8-2) next travel to Montgomery this weekend to play in the annual Faulkner University Invitational beginning with a match versus 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College (6-0) at 3 p.m. on Friday.
