The Spring Hill College men's soccer team used a 2nd half goal off the head of junior Salvador Sanchis to squeeze past Delta State University in a non-conference contest on Friday afternoon at Library Field.
After a scoreless 1st half, Sanchis, a native of Miami, Fla., accepted a corner kick from the left side off the foot of junior Mario Escalante of Santa Cruz, Bolivia, at the right goal post and headed it back across the goal inside the left post for the game-winning tally in the 57th minute of play.
Spring Hill outshot DSU (0-1) 11-10 as SHC goal keeper sophomore Jacob Files of Clinton, Miss., made one save and Statesman keeper Mack Pytyck collected three stops.
Delta State failed to convert on any of its seven corner opportunities while SHC took just two corner attempts in the contest.
Spring Hill (3-1) will next travel to Pensacola, Fla., on Sunday to face NCAA Division II rivals the University of West Florida Argonauts at 3 p.m.
