The Spring Hill College volleyball team lost their opening match of the Faulkner University Invitational to the 19th-ranked Lindsey Wilson College Blue Raiders in a heartbreaking 3-2 decision before rebounding to win their evening contest in a 3-0 decision versus Freed-Hardeman University on Friday.
The Blue Raiders rallied from down 2-0 after two sets to win 3-2 in the scores of 16-25, 22-25, 25-22, 25-16, 18-16. In the match, junior hitter Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., collected 19 kills and three blocks while senior middle hitter Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile had 14 kills to lead five Badgers with double-digit kill totals. Senior Meredith Donald of Mobile roped in 21 digs and senior setter Taryn Nash dished out 47 assists and 17 digs.
The second match saw SHC win in a score of 25-14, 25-14 25 17 with Haber adding 12 more kills to her day's totals and freshman Molly Griffin of Westlake Village, Calif., pitching it 10 kills. Nash handed around another 35 assists as junior Sami Maurer of St. Louis, Mo., scooped up 10 digs.
The Badgers (9-3) will remain in Montgomery on Saturday to face Warner University at 9 a.m. and Webber International University at 1 p.m.
