METAIRIE, La. – The Spring Hill College men's cross country team opened the 2013 race season with a 4th place finish at the Wolf Pack Invitational hosted by Loyola University (La.) at Lafreniere Park on Saturday morning.
The Badgers collected 74 combined points and ran a total team time of 1:32:43.53 with an average time of 18:32.71 over the 5,000-meter course.
Sophomore Jordan Travis of Poplarville, Miss., began the year in fine form by establishing the 11th best 5k time in SHC history with a time of 17:49.15 and a 7th place finish out of 49 runners.
Next across the line for the Badgers was junior John Russell of Cullman, Ala., who notched a time of 18:16.36 for 14th place while freshman Seamus Russell of Cullman debuted for SHC with an 18th place finish in 18:49.45.
Freshman Alex Vaporciyan from Houston, Texas, ran a time of 18:49.65 for 19th place and sophomore Patrick Lameka of Chicago, Ill., closed out the Badger scoring in 21st position and a mark of 18:58.92.
Sophomores Brennan McLean of Baton Rouge, La., placed 24th in a time of 19:07.58 and Phillip Travis of Poplarville was 26th at 19:26.61.
Junior Conner Kirkikis of Kenner, La., was 28th in 19:45.63 and sophomore Conner Bueche of Baton Rouge was 33rd at 20:27.87.
Spring Hill next runs on Saturday at the Gulf Coast Stampede hosted by the University of West Florida at the Escambia County Equestrian Center in Pensacola beginning at 8 a.m.
