HARTWELL, Ga. – The Spring Hill College men's golf team opened the 2013-14 season with a 5th place finish out of seven teams in the Emmanuel College Fall Invitational at the Cateechee Golf Club on Monday and Tuesday.
The Badgers shot a combined team score of 604 (302, 302, +28) over the par-72, 6928-yard course and finished 21 strokes behind the team champion University of the Cumberlands (298, 285, 583, +7).
Individually, junior Jordan Portal of Miami, Fla., carded rounds of 73 and 71 for an even score of 144 to finish tied for 4th place and just four strokes behind the winner, Michal Pospisil (74, 66, 140, -4) of the Cumberlands.
Freshman Wesley Hunter began his college career in 17th place with scores of 76 and 76 (152, +8). Senior Philip Dugan of Lake Forest, Ill., was 18th (73, 80, 153, +9) and junior Robert Bo Cox of Gardendale, Ala., carded a +14 score of 158 (83, 75) for 30th place while freshman Grant Luisi made his collegiate debut with a +22 score of 166 (88, 86, 166) for 40th position out of 45 total golfers.
Spring Hill will next shoot at the 2013 Chick-fil-A Invitational at Coosa Country Club in Rome, Ga., on September 29-October 1.
