The Spring Hill College volleyball team took a 3-0 (25-12, 26-24, 25-11) conference victory over the Belhaven University Lady Blazers (4-10, 0-3 SSAC) on Friday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Spring Hill coasted through the first set for the 25-12 victory after building out a 19-8 advantage. In the second set, however, the Lady Blazers refused to back down and rallied from an 11-5 deficit to take a late 21-22 lead, but the Badgers regained their composure after a timeout by head coach Dr. Peggy Martin and slugged back for the 26-24 win.
The third set saw SHC maintain its focus and build a 17-9 bulge before closing the match out with a 25-11 final score.
Sami Hantak paced the SHC offense with 12 kills while Taryn Nash continued her outstanding year at setter with 42 assists. Sha Sha Buchanan added 11 kills and four total blocks while Meredith Donald scooped up 13 digs and Molly Griffin took in 17 receptions, eight kills and six digs.
SHC hit .444 (46-10-81) with five team blocks on the night while holding Belhaven to a .210 attack percentage (31-14-81) and four team blocks.
Brittany Ammons led Belhaven with nine kills and Alyson Plyler handed out 28 assists.
Riding an 8-match winning streak, the Badgers (16-3, 3-0 SSAC) will be back in conference play on Tuesday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center versus Jesuit rival the Loyola University (La.) Wolf Pack (3-10, 1-1 SSAC) beginning at 7 p.m.
