The Spring Hill College women's soccer team bounced back from a disappointing conference-opening loss on Friday by winning a Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) decision over the Lady Barons of Brewton-Parker College on Saturday afternoon at Library Field by a score of 3-0.
Following a scoreless first half, the Badgers finally scratched the scoreboard in the 65th minute when junior Erin Claxton converted penalty kick after the Lady Barons were whistled for a handball in the goalkeeper's box.
Sophomore Hannah Michael made it a 2-0 contest in the 79th minute off an assist by junior Erin Brennan. Claxton then put the icing on the SHC victory in the 87th minute when her attempted entry pass off a free kick found the back of the net from 30 yards out.
Sophomore Maggie Dalessio (4-2) picked up her second shutout victory of the season with a save against just three shots by the Lady Barons (3-6, 0-2 SSAC). Marlee Tyde of BPC made 12 saves in the face of 26 shots by the Badgers. SHC also took 11 corner kicks and allowed none by the visiting team.
The Badgers (6-2-0, 1-1 SSAC) will next travel to Central, S.C., to play the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors (2-4-1, 0-1 SSAC) on Friday at 4 p.m.
