THE COLONY, Texas – The Spring Hill College women's bowling team reached the finals of the Elite Care Baker Invitational at their historic first collegiate varsity tournament, but fell 3-1 to the Buffalos of West Texas A&M.
A combined score of 4205 in the seeding round on Saturday gave the Badgers a No. 2 seed out of four teams and Spring Hill would continue to shine in the match of Sunday's double-elimination tournament by winning a 3-0 decision over West Texas A&M (Team 2) with the scores of 171-165; 153-119; 181-160.
The Badgers would next take a 3-1 (165-171; 153-119; 181-160; 188-176) loss to West Texas A&M (Team 1), but they rebounded to earn another 3-1 (177-162; 182-155; 183-217; 163-130) victory over West Texas A&M (Team 2) in the elimination bracket's final round.
West Texas A&M (Team 1) again proved too tough for SHC in the championship round and took a 3-1 victory by the scores of 233-165; 179-164; 169-179; 195-180.
"It was a great start for our ladies," said head coach Ben Hoefs. "West Texas A&M is an established program with a good history and we played them well. We have a lot of work ahead of us, but I'm happy with our performance."
SHC will next play at the University of Florida Gator Collegiate Shootout at AMF Alley Katz in Gainesville on October 26-27, 2013.
