The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named men's bowler Ryan Houck and women's soccer player Erin Claxton as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments during the week of September 16-22, 2013.
Houck, a freshman from Pen Argyl, Pa., stepped up to roll two consecutive strikes late in the first set of the championship match at the Elite Care Baker Invitational versus Texas A&M to secure a 224-212 victory and switch the momentum to the Badgers' corner. With wins in the final two sets by the scores of 198-156 and 230-160, the SHC men would go on to secure a tournament title in the program's first outing in its history.
Claxton, a junior midfielder from Calgary, Alberta, had three goals with two assists for eight points in leading SHC to a 2-1 record on the week. She tallied two assists in a 9-2 win over Tennessee Temple University on Monday and scored two goals in a 3-0 victory over Brewton-Parker College on Saturday.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
