FRANKLIN SPRINGS, Ga. – A goal by Jamie Townley in the 78th minute of play lifted the Spring Hill College women's soccer team to a 1-0 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) victory over Emmanuel College on Saturday afternoon.
Townley's goal came off a through-ball by sophomore Courtney Harlan of Mobile that allowed the freshman forward from Pace, Florida, to break the defensive line of the Lions for a one-on-one opportunity with the goalie that she cashed in with a game-winning shot.
Spring Hill out-shot the Lions 10-5 with sophomore goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio (5-2) of St. Petersburg, Fla., making three saves for her third shutout of the year and the fifth by the Badger team. SHC took four corner kicks while successfully defending five corner attempts by Emmanuel.
Spring Hill has now won three consecutive conference matches and finds itself just a half game behind the conference leaders with seven SSAC matches left to play.
The Badgers (8-2-0, 3-1 SSAC) will next travel to Jackson, Miss., on Wednesday to face the Belhaven University Lady Blazers (8-2, 2-2 SSAC) at 5 p.m. on H.T. Newell Field.
