KANSAS CITY, Mo. – Spring Hill College was among the 217 colleges and universities recognized with a 2012-13 NAIA Champions of Character Five Star Award as announced by the NAIA.

In order to receive the award, NAIA members must score 60 or more points on the NAIA Champions of Character Scorecard. Spring Hill College finished with 81 points for the 2012-13 academic year. The Southern States Athletic Conference was also recognized as a Champions of Character Five Star Conference for having at least 60 percent of its member schools score at least 60 points on the scorecard.

The Champions of Character Scorecard measures each institution's commitment to the NAIA Champions of Character program. Points are earned in five key areas: character training, conduct in competition, academic focus, character recognition and character promotion. Institutions earned points based upon exceptional student-athlete grade point averages and by obtaining zero ejections during competition throughout the course of the academic year.

The Scorecard was created in order to convert the NAIA's vision and strategy into measurable goals to monitor progress toward advancing character-driven intercollegiate athletics. The Scorecard process is based on the NAIA's Champions of Character program, which emphasizes five core values of integrity, respect, responsibility, sportsmanship and servant leadership.
