The Spring Hill College women's soccer team suffered a 4-0 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) loss to the 10th-ranked William Carey University Lady Crusaders at Library Field on Saturday afternoon.
The Lady Crusaders (8-4, 5-0 SSAC) scored their first goal in the 23rd minute when hard luck struck the Badgers as SHC goalkeeper Maggie Dalessio's attempt to clear the ball downfield squarely hit Carey's Claudia Saucedo and rebounded back into the goal.
Despite the unfortunate turn of events, the Badgers went into halftime down just 1-0, but the Lady Crusaders would score twice within a minute of play in the 59th and 60th minutes when Emmaleigh Davis first connected on a nifty hook shot with her back to goal from five yards out and then split two defenders to score from seven yards out just seconds later.
Darby Nettles closed the day with a fourth WCU goal in the 79th minute.
Dalessio finished the day with eight saves against 23 Carey shots while her counterpart on the other side of the field, Linfah Jones of William Carey, made two saves for WCU against nine Badger shots. Both teams attempted four corner kicks in the game.
The Badgers (9-3, 4-2 SSAC) will next travel to the Auburn University at Montgomery (AUM) Warhawks (6-3, 2-1 SSAC) on Wednesday, October 16, at 2 p.m. at the AUM Soccer Complex.
