The Spring Hill College men's soccer team dropped a 2-1 SSAC decision to the 13th-ranked Martin Methodist College RedHawks at Library Field on Friday afternoon.

The Redhawks (10-3-1, 7-2-1 SSAC) scored in the 1st minute of play when Sean Dong beat SHC goal keeper Jacob Files one-on-one just 18 seconds into the match.

Martin Methodist then made it a 2-0 game in the 7th minute as Kenneth Monge accepted a free kick entry pass from Felix Kristofferson in stride and ripped in a shot from eight yards out.

Spring Hill halved the score to 2-1 in the 80th minute when Dylan Gardner scored via an assist by Arturo Garcia, but the home team would draw no closer.

Files made six saves against 21 RedHawk shots in the loss while Stephen Lunney of MMC made four saves versus 11 shots by the Badgers. Martin Methodist took seven corner kick opportunities while SHC had three kicks from the angles.

With the loss and 2-1 overtime victory by Bethel University at the University of Mobile later in the day, Spring Hill was mathematically eliminated from an opportunity for postseason play.

The Badgers (6-10, 3-7 SSAC) will close out the 2013 season with a home match versus the Bethel University Wildcats (9-5-1, 4-5-1 SSAC) at Library Field on Saturday at 3:30 p.m. Before the match, Spring Hill will honor their three senior team members with the annual Senior Day ceremony.
