The Spring Hill College volleyball team extended its current winning streak to 22 matches with a 3-0 (25-18, 25-13, 25-22) non-conference decision over the Southern University at New Orleans (SUNO) Lady Knights on Friday night at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
Spring Hill built a quick 8-2 advantage in the first set en route to a 25-19 victory and then ran out to a 10-1 lead to open the second set before coasting to the 25-13 win.
In the third set, the Lady Knights (13-12) fought back from a 9-3 deficit to take a 19-18 lead and three times tied the set at 20-20, 21-21, and 22-22 before the Badgers righted their ship to squeak out the 25-22 final score.
Junior hitter Megan Haber of Lillian, Ala., led the Badgers with 16 kills and senior Sha Sha Buchanan of Mobile added 11 kills. Senior setter Taryn Nash of Independence, Mo., handed out 37 assists and senior libero Meredith Donald of Mobile scooped in eight digs with 15 receptions. Junior outside hitter Sami Maurer of St. Louis, Mo., collected 14 digs with 13 receptions.
SUNO was led by Delores Tyler with 11 kills, Stephanie Buhl with 21 assists and Christal Hollins with 18 digs. Ana Privrat added 11 digs with 31 receptions.
As a team, the Badgers hit for a .288 average (50-12-132) with eight blocks and three service aces. SUNO hit .133 (37-19-135) with two aces and two blocked shots.
Spring Hill (30-3, 13-0 SSAC) will conclude the 2013 regular season at home versus the Brewton-Parker College Lady Barons (3-19, 0-13 SSAC) on Saturday at 11 a.m. in the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center. The Badgers will be attempting to complete their third consecutive undefeated conference regular season and, at the same time, head coach Dr. Peggy Martin will be going for the 1,200th win of her career joining Navy's Larry Bock as the only collegiate coaches to pass the 1,200 career wins mark.
