NEW ORLEANS, La. – The Spring Hill College women's basketball team fell to 0-2 in the young season with a 79-49 non-conference loss the 15th-ranked Xavier University (La.) Gold Nuggets at the Convocation Center on Saturday night.

The Gold Nuggets (2-0) opened the game with two consecutive 3-point buckets and maintained the momentum en route to building a 23-11 advantage with 10 minutes to go in the first half and doubled-up the Badgers at 32-16 with seven minutes until the intermission. By the time two teams reached the break, XU held a comfortable 41-21 margin.

Xavier continued to roll in the second half, holding a 61-32 lead with 11:05 left on the clock.

Spring Hill was led by freshman guard Corinne Missi with nine points and freshman forward Camry Johnson with nine rebounds.

Paige Gauthier paced the Gold Nuggets with 11 points while Danielle Tucker hauled down 10 rebounds for the home team.

Overall, the Badgers were 27.1% (16-59) from the floor including a 16% 4-25 performance from the 3-point line. Xavier won the war beneath the boards with 41 rebounds to 38 for SHC. Xavier completed 30 of their 60 shots for a 50% night and was 57.1% (8-14) from 3-point territory.

Spring Hill turned the ball over to the Gold Nuggets 20 times against eight steals while earning five steals and benefiting from 18 Xavier turnovers.

The Badgers (0-2) next travel to Central, S.C., on Friday to open conference play versus the Southern Wesleyan University Warriors (1-1) at Historic Tysinger Gymnasium beginning at 4:30 p.m.
