The Spring Hill College Department of Athletics has named John Russell and Megan Haber as its USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week for their accomplishments during the week of November 4-10, 2013.
Russell, a junior on the men's cross country team from Cullman, ran the fastest 8-kilometer time in SHC men's cross country history at 26:42.99 for 13th place out of 93 runners at the 2013 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) Championships at Choctaw Trails in Clinton, Miss., on Saturday. The previous mark of 26:56.1 was set by Patrick Aucoin on Oct.13, 2007, on the same course at the Watson Ford Invitational hosted by Mississippi College.
Haber, a junior outside hitter on the volleyball team from Lillian was the MVP of the 2013 SSAC Volleyball Tournament in Montgomery. For the season, she has recorded 448 kills and an attack percentage of .428 in 125 sets played. Haber has also tallied 120 total blocks with 45 digs, 35 assists and four aces this year.
In recognition of this honor, each week's winners of USA ROTC-Spring Hill College Student-Athletes of the Week award will receive a T-shirt, water bottle and handy gym bag compliments of the University of South Alabama ROTC.
