The Spring Hill College and Faulkner State Community College men's tennis teams battled down to the final serve on Thursday afternoon with the Badgers taking the match by a 5-4 score. The match was the first of the Fall season for the Spring Hill College men.
In doubles action, the Badgers won two of the three matches as Michael Evan Davis and Brendan Gallagher won at the No. 1 position, (8-4). The No. 2 team of Chris Link and Michael Logan also won handily, (8-1).
The singles matches began with a loss for the Badgers as Davis fell in the No. 1 match (6-3, 6-1) as did No. 5 Nick Rayburn (6-1, 6-1) and No. 6 Johnny Ngamvilay, (6-1, 6-2). Gallagher took his No. 2 match with a rapid win (6-1, 6-1) leaving No. 3 Logan and No. 4 Link to decide the final outcome. Both final matches came down to tie-breaking third sets where the Badgers were able to squeeze out thrilling 10-8 victories.
