The Spring Hill College men's basketball team remained winless on the 2013-14 season with a 74-69 Southern States Athletic Conference (SSAC) loss to the College of Coastal Georgia Mariners on Saturday evening at the Arthur R. Outlaw Recreation Center.
In a game that featured 16 lead changes and was tied nine times, the Mariners (6-3, 2-2 SSAC East) trailed the Badgers by four points two minutes into the 2nd half before rallying for the win.
Spring Hill was led by Robert Gipson with 20 points, Jarrett Calhoun with 17 points and Frederick Gatson with 11 points.
CCG saw Reggie Burke score 26 points with Kentorey Johnson adding 18 points and PJ Reason contributing 14 points. The Mariners shot 33.9% (20-59) from the field including 42.1% (8-19) in 3-point attempts. Coastal also made 86.7% (26-30) of their free throw attempts.
The Badgers shot 36.4% (24-66) from the floor including 29.2% (7-24) from behind the arc. SHC won the rebounding war in a 48-42 outcome, but turned the ball over 13 times against seven CCG steals. Coastal committed 11 turnovers as the Badgers stole the ball six times.
The Badgers (0-5, 0-3 SSAC West) will next visit the Dillard University Bleu Devils (1-1) for a non-conference contest on Tuesday night at 7:30 p.m. in New Orleans, La.
